Parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their child, either wholly or partly, from Religious Education (RE) lessons. This right is set out in education legislation and is respected by Reach.
We encourage parents and carers considering withdrawal to discuss their decision with the school so that we can ensure they are fully informed about the RE curriculum and the aims of the subject. Such discussions are intended to support mutual understanding and do not affect a parent’s right to withdraw their child.
If a child is withdrawn from RE, the school will make appropriate arrangements for their supervision during RE lessons. However, the school is not required to provide alternative teaching or learning activities as part of the withdrawal.
Parents and carers wishing to withdraw their child from RE should submit their request in writing to the Headteacher.
