Active Schools Friendly is an initiative aimed at creating a supportive, inclusive, and energizing environment where physical activity is encouraged, accessible, and celebrated. This program focuses on fostering healthy habits among students, ensuring that schools prioritize physical activity and well-being as part of their daily routines.
Carnegie Mental Health award - Gold status
Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools, awarded Reach Gold status for the work we do in supporting our pupils and staff with their mental health. We believe that teaching and learning about mental health is paramount to being able to feel included, engaged so that we can enjoy and celebrate what we do in life. Achieving Gold Status is a prestigious achievement, highlighting a proactive and holistic approach to supporting mental health, fostering resilience, and ensuring that mental well-being is prioritized alongside academic success. Reach have implemented comprehensive strategies to create an inclusive, supportive environment where individuals feel safe, heard, and empowered. By earning Gold Status, Reach showcase their dedication to improving mental health outcomes and creating a culture of care that benefits everyone.
Eco Schools
Reach encourages students, teachers, and communities to work together to reduce their ecological footprint, promote environmental awareness, and create greener, healthier school environments. Through hands-on projects, Eco Schools and Reach fosters a sense of responsibility and stewardship, teaching students valuable skills in sustainability, waste reduction, and conservation. Reach aims to not only contributes to the well-being of the planet but also inspire future generations to become proactive environmental leaders.
Healthy Schools
We aim to ensure that all of our pupils grow healthily, safely and responsibly. We do this through our delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum. We focus on promoting the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of students, staff, and the broader school community. By integrating health education, healthy lifestyle choices, and wellness programs into everyday school life, it creates an environment where well-being is prioritized. This approach encourages healthy eating, physical activity, mental health support, and the development of positive social connections. Reach fosters a culture of care that empowers students to make informed decisions about their health, setting them up for success both in and out of the classroom.
Mindmate Champions
We are a Mindmate friendly school. We have a broad and effective curriculum that supports our SEMH needs. We empower young people to become leaders in promoting mental health and well-being within their schools and communities. By providing training and support, the Mindmate program helps students develop the skills and confidence to advocate for mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and create a supportive environment for their peers. Mindmate Champions are role models who lead by example, offering guidance and resources to encourage positive mental health practices. Through their efforts, they play a vital role in fostering a culture of care, understanding, and resilience, ensuring that mental health is prioritized and openly discussed.
Investors in Pupils Award
Cockburn Reach Academy, has achieved the Investors in Pupils Award. The Investors in Pupils programme gives pupils the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of how our school works, the roles and responsibilities of our Steering Group, who act similarly to school governors and an age appropriate understanding of how we spend our school budget. This is achieved through empowering all pupils, increasing motivation and contributing to raising achievement across the key stages.
Investors in Pupils offers a framework for involving pupils in decision making, developing responsibility and leadership in relation to their learning, behaviour, attendance and classroom management. It also encourages pupils to think about how they themselves can contribute to the running of the school.
PSHE Friendly

Reach embraces the PSHE Friendly approach and is dedicated to nurturing well-rounded individuals who are prepared for life beyond the classroom.
School Food Friendly
We aim to ensure that all of our pupils grow healthily, safely and responsibly. We do this through our delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum. We create a positive food culture by promoting healthy, balanced, and sustainable eating habits among students. Reach focuses on providing nutritious meals, educating students about the importance of good nutrition, and fostering an environment where healthy food choices are accessible and celebrated. By involving students, staff, and families in making healthier food decisions, the initiative supports the overall well-being of the school community. Reach ensures that every student has the opportunity to enjoy delicious, wholesome meals that support their growth, learning, and long-term health.
